Jonas is General Counsel of GE Ventures, GE’s growth and innovation business comprised of GE Ventures, GE Licensing and New Business Creation. GE Ventures invests in and partners with the entrepreneurial ecosystem across Healthcare, Energy, Software, Advanced Manufacturing, and Lighting and starts and grows companies via its New Business Creation unit. GE Licensing creates shareholder value through GE’s IP. Jonas manages the GE Ventures legal team that is responsible for the legal, government affairs and compliance matters for the various Ventures business units. In addition, Jonas is the lead M&A lawyer for GE’s Business Innovations business unit.
Prior to joining GE Ventures, Jonas was a leader in GE’s M&A group based out of Connecticut, managing strategic transactions for GE. Jonas advised on the strategic plan to sell most of GE Capital’s assets in 2015-2016 (including, among other things, leading the sale of GE’s core North American commercial lending & leasing businesses to Wells Fargo and the sale of GE Capital Bank to Goldman Sachs). Jonas also led the team for the Synchrony Financial IPO and split-off for GE and served as an observing party on Synchrony’s board. Prior to that, Jonas was a lead lawyer for GE Equity. Prior to joining General Electric in 2006, Jonas was an attorney focusing on M&A, private equity, venture capital and securities law at Sullivan & Cromwell, based in S&C’s California and London offices. In 2003-2004, Jonas taught Corporations at Pepperdine University as an adjunct professor.
Jonas is a member of the state bar of California. Jonas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Cognitive Sciences and Philosophy, and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School, where he served as an articles editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology. Jonas and his wife, Elizabeth, have four girls and a black Labrador Retriever named “Birdie”.
